Introduction
The present day LIS professionals are not only functioning as the custodians of library materials, but their roles have been changing with the contemporary developments in the profession. In the current information age, it is challenging for the LIS professionals to align themselves to the ever changing demands of the stake-holders. The professional associations are helping them to acquire the required skills and knowledge by providing the platform to share and discuss the fast changing developments and apply the newly acquired knowledge to serve their users more effectively and efficiently. It also implies in understanding the implications of the normative principles of Library Science, the Five Laws of Library Science, enunciated by Dr. S R Ranganathan, the father of Library Movement in India. The current developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are playing a predominant role in helping to provide right Information to the right users in the right format at the right time. In spite of all these developments and technological advances, the gap between the services offered and the library users is still widening, as the amalgamation of user requirements and the information resources is becoming the most bountiful challenge confronted by the LIS professionals. The reason behind this may vary from discipline to discipline. This conference is an effort in this direction of bridging the gap between the user and the resources blended with the requisite services offered by the LIS professionals. This conference also provides a platform for the LIS professionals to come together, discuss, discover and carry forward right solutions to serve their customers better in their information quest.
